Base64 Encoder & Decoder
Convert text to and from Base64. Handles Unicode (UTF-8) safely.
Why Base64-encode in the browser?
Developers paste API tokens, PEM snippets, data URLs, and customer identifiers into Base64 tools daily. A server-side encoder can log that paste. Just Tool It uses the browser’s own encoding APIs (TextEncoder / btoa-style paths with UTF-8 safety) so secrets stay in the tab. Encode, decode, copy, done — zero-server processing for a workflow where privacy actually matters.
How to encode or decode Base64
- Paste plain text to encode, or Base64 to decode.
- Choose encode or decode (and any URL-safe options the UI provides).
- Run the conversion — results appear instantly in the output box.
- Copy the result. Clear the page when finished with sensitive strings.
Frequently asked questions
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption. Anyone can decode it. Never treat Base64 as a way to hide
secrets — use real crypto tools for that.
Does this handle Unicode?
Yes. The tool is built for UTF-8 text so non-ASCII characters encode and decode correctly, unlike naive
btoa-only snippets.
Is my paste sent to a server?
No. Encoding and decoding run in JavaScript in this tab. There is no paste-bin backend.
Can I encode files?
This page focuses on text. For images as data URLs, use the Image → Base64 and Base64 → Image tools.
