Convert image formats without uploading

Most format converters upload your picture to a server, run a command-line tool, and email you back a download link. That round-trip is slow, costs you privacy, and often imposes file-size limits. Just Tool It does the conversion right here in your browser — using the image decoder that ships with Chrome, Safari and Firefox, plus a small JavaScript encoder for the formats the browser does not handle natively. The original file never leaves the tab.

Supported formats

Any image your browser can decode is accepted as input — JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF (first frame), BMP, ICO, SVG and AVIF on modern browsers. You can convert to any of these outputs:

  • PNG — lossless, supports transparency.
  • JPEG — small, lossy, ideal for photos. Transparency is flattened against the chosen background.
  • WEBP — modern, smaller than JPEG at the same quality.
  • BMP — uncompressed 24-bit bitmap. Useful for legacy software.
  • ICO — Windows icon. Auto-resized to 256 × 256 max.
  • SVG — wraps the raster image inside an SVG container so it can be embedded where SVG is required.

How to use

  1. Drop an image onto the upload area, or click to browse.
  2. Pick a target format. Quality and background apply to lossy outputs (JPEG, WEBP) and formats without transparency (JPEG, BMP).
  3. Resize (optional). Type a width or height. Lock the aspect ratio to keep proportions.
  4. Click Convert, then Download.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is decoded by your browser, drawn onto a canvas, and re-encoded locally. The file never leaves this tab — you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the converter still works.
Why can't I convert to TIFF, HEIC, PSD or PDF here?
These formats are not decoded or encoded by mainstream browsers, so reliable client-side conversion would require shipping a multi-megabyte decoder for every page load. To keep this tool lightweight and fully offline, we limit it to formats the browser handles natively, plus a few simple ones (BMP, ICO, SVG) with built-in encoders.
What happens with animated GIFs?
Only the first frame is converted. Animated GIF encoding is not possible with the browser's built-in tools alone.
Why is JPEG sometimes larger than the original PNG?
JPEG and PNG compress differently. For flat or simple graphics — logos, icons, screenshots — PNG is usually smaller. JPEG wins for photographic content. Try WEBP for a balance between the two.
